BREEDING PROGRAM
We would like to enable all kittens to grow up in the middle of our family, so we only have one or two litters each year and therefore there are hardly any kitten available spontaneously. If you are interested in a kitten, you can ask to be put on the waiting list.
For various reasons, from time to time we may be looking for a new place for one of our adult velvet paws - we will be happy to provide you with information on this as well.
HEALTH
When we use a cat for breeding, it is our number one priority that it is healthy. That is why we test all our breeding animals for the diseases listed below. PK-Deficiency, PRA and HCM can be inherited and there is no cure for them.
Basics:
-
FIV (Feline Immundeficiency-virus): causes feline AIDS (immunodeficiency disease).
-
FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus): causes leukosis (feline leukemia).
Genetic:
-
PK-Def (Pyruvate Kinase deficiency): Due to an enzyme deficiency, the red blood cells are destroyed, which - among other things - leads to anemia. Some of the sick cats die or have to be euthanized.
-
rdAc-PRA and b-PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy): Changes in the retina of the eye that lead to blindness in the first years of life and cannot be reversed.
-
Blood group : If blood group B is present, under certain circumstances (if the stud has blood group A) the kitten will suffer from blood group intolerance ('fading kitten syndrome'), which leads to an agonizing death within the first few days of life.
Ultrasound:
-
HCM (Hypertrophic Cardio-Myopathy): Hereditary heart disease with pathological thickening of the heart muscle, which leads to a malfunction / reduced function of the heart. This disease is also incurable.
